when you plan on trapping beavers in small lakes.first check any and all ditches and feeder creeks(set these up) here otter can be caught as well.if the lakes has small coves and the banks are rocky and steap .the beaver will be feeding in these coves because the coves will be flat at the points.this will make it easy for the beaver to exit and enter the water while feeding.these coves will have large feed beds at the back of the coves.during the spring i set these areas up with castor mounds to tick the feeding beaver off.when i set a cove up i use two castor mounds for beaver and goe up a little farther and place me two bucket sets with flags for cats and coon, then i goe up a little farther and set me two flat sets for canines and cats.
why by knowing that the animal will always goe the easyest route of travel and it being the eastest excess to water,i just gang set for every thing in one stop with out wasting time.now use caution with flags because if a thief finds it you will lose traps. if i feel that a chance that could happen then i leave the flags off and add plenty of eye appeal
